Robert's Story
I came into rainbow house after years of drug addiction and 17 years on what was meant to be a short methadone maintenance program. With loads of fear off coming off it I got detoxed in Rainbow and walked through it with their lived experience staff.
My life was an absolute mess, with no hope for the future and a whole host of problems to fix. My anxiety levels were through the roof going into Rainbow house but their awesome staff team made me feel at ease. I done my 12 week program that consisted of CBT, steps 1,2,3, and topic groups, ranging from co-dependency to self-esteem and relapse prevention, these were second to none.
I went back to volunteer in rainbow after doing their training and I’m now 3 and a half year clean. I attribute that to Rainbow house, my sponsor, fellowship and God, all of which would never have happened if I hadn’t entered Rainbow house as I couldn’t maintain abstinence in my community. I’ll be forever grateful to the awesome staff team from their chef who fed us well and built us up, to key workers, to seniors and management.
I do wonder now and then if I would be sitting here now if I hadn’t went to rainbow, with the awesome life I have better than I have ever known. My mum and dad can sleep at night my daughter has her dad back and my sisters have their brother back. Thank god for places like Rainbow house that helped save my life. God bless rainbow house.
