Abbeycare Scotland is a specialist residential abstinence-based substance use detoxification and rehabilitation service. Our service is based at our purpose-built care facility at Erskine Mains House in Erskine, Renfrewshire. We have approaching two decades’ experience in supporting those experiencing addiction to substances.
The aim of our service is to provide the client with a safe environment in which they can receive supervised detoxification and harm reduction interventions. Through participation in our therapeutic programme clients will have the opportunity to explore and identify the personal changes, they require to make within themselves and their relationships and environment to enable them to maintain their recovery.

What model(s) of rehabilitation do you practise?
Our service employs fully qualified psychotherapists who deliver our therapeutic programme using interventions to clients in both group and individual settings.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the primary therapeutic model we practice, however, several other therapeutic models such 12 step, psychosynthesis, psychoanalytical psychotherapy, solution focused therapy, mindfulness, and behavioural therapies, such as acceptance and commitment therapy are used to offer an integrated approach that is inclusive and respectful of client’s individual needs and distinctive characteristics.
We provide a recovery community environment that is inclusive, trauma informed and driven by a belief that everyone is capable of change. The addition of distress tolerance and emotional regulation are key parts of group therapy. Psychoanalytical psychotherapy techniques enable helpful processing of past events and/or situations that unconsciously show up in the present.
Offering group and one to one therapy sessions that explore the unconscious mind with a view of uncovering the root cause of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and discovering a rationale for behaviour that can elevate judgement, fear, guilt and shame enables new psychological processing that can lead to increased understanding of root cause, which in turn can offer access to the compassionate self, acceptance and subsequent commitment to behaviour change.
Both psychoeducational and the 12 Step programme of recovery are used to teach, encourage connections, and potentially maintain and enhance abstinence. We acknowledge all mutual aid programmes and support clients to explore options of abstinence-based support programmes and services.
Recovery care planning adopts a person-centred approach using the recovery Outcome Star model.
