Ward 5 is a residential unit which provides a flexible service based on the needs of each individual. The main treatment is through 1 to 1 support and group work, with each workshop designed to support each person on their road to recovery.

Situated within the grounds of Woodland View, Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine, North Ayrshire.

Our available treatments consist of:

  • A detoxification programme (usually up to 1 week)
  • A residential 3-week programme
  • Assessment of mental health and wellbeing
  • A structured day attendance programme

Admission criteria

Residents of Ayrshire and Arran over the age of 16 who have an alcohol and/or drug problem and mental health issues.

All referrals and access to Ward 5 are via our North, South and East Ayrshire community alcohol and drug services. These services will ensure that support is provided to individuals before, during and after completion of the Ward 5 programmes of support.

What model(s) of rehabilitation do you practise?

We promote a positive therapeutic environment that allows individuals to engage in treatment such as:

  • Counselling (including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Bereavement Counselling and Motivational Interviewing as well as others).
  • Mental health assessment and treatment.
  • Group workshops.

The group programme aims to promote more positive coping skills to help individuals to remain free from alcohol or drug use.

What are your considerations around religious beliefs?

Ward 5 is based within Woodland View hospital and caters for all religions.

What funding models are available?

Ward 5 is funded by NHS Ayrshire and Arran with additional funding from each of the local Alcohol and Drug Partnerships.

There is no payment or fee attached to Ward 5.
